Hunter Singers is the NSW Department of Education Regional North Choir for students in government schools in the Newcastle, Maitland, Port Stephens, Lake Macquarie and Hunter area. Hunter Singers is dedicated to nurturing and developing young voices and promoting Australian choral music. In 2024, Hunter Singers will celebrate 35 years of exceptional music-making, marking a history that includes a range of successful international tours, high-profile performances and significant commissioned works.
The group comprises two ensembles, providing valuable musical opportunities for developing voices. The Hunter Singers features students in Years 7-12 in government High Schools, while members of the Hunter Trebles are drawn from government primary schools, Years 3-6.
In the spirit of reconciliation, Hunter Singers acknowledges and pays respect to the past, present and future Traditional Custodians and Elders of our region: the Awabakal, Worimi and Wonnarua people. We recognise the continuation of cultural, spiritual and educational practices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and pay our respects to their Elders past, present and emerging.
